Olympic Hopeful Andy Tennant's blog

January.

Well I am on my final training camp in Mallorca before my first target of the 2012 season - the London Olympic Test Event at the new London velodrome. This is the first competitive event the velodrome has seen and should be amazing. I am told that the velodrome is sold out, with all the tickets selling out in the first 5 minutes!

During the next two weeks I will be trying to show that I deserve a place in the ‘Team Pursuit’ team. I will complete various training drills on the boards at the Manchester velodrome. Every day will essentially be a Trial. Consistency is a must, as every day the squad will be measured in terms of: power, technical skills, and other aspect of ‘team pursuiting’. All with the aim of selecting the 4 best riders to compete.

To get to this point, the squad have been doing warm weather training in Mallorca. This has consisted of large volumes of road riding and some intense individual efforts. Unlike previous years, we have also been training on the track doing power work and some longer race drills. Hopefully, this will pay dividends.  I am sure that if nothing else it will make the transition back onto the track, which normally takes a few days, a lot shorter.

Unfortunately, one my camps had to be cut short as I contracted a head cold. This put me back a few days, and I am now hoping that this does not affect me too much in my fight for London - only time will tell.
